Roll-Royce unveiled its newest convertible the 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn during this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The new vehicle’s appeal and aura both in the exterior and interior is awe-inspiring. Rolls-Royce never disappoints in its offerings and similarly the new “Dawn’ will be an epitome of luxury to those few who can afford it.

The vehicle has the all familiar Rolls-Royce shape and features dynamic lines and a stylish smooth surface that oozes power and dominance.

2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn Exterior

At a closer view, the 2017 Rolls Royce Dawn looks like the Wraith with the exception of the retractable roof but the auto maker has denied the similarity claiming that the body is 80% new. The two door convertible has a length of 208.07 inches, 76.65 inches width and a height of 59.13 inches. It has a wheelbase of 122.51 inches.

Its roof retracts in only 21 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph. Buyers will have an option to choose between 20 or 21-inch painted or polished wheels. The Dawn borrows some features from the Wraith including the rear-hinged side doors and a squared-off front chrome grille though it has been recessed by 1.7 inches.

On the back, it features an upright rear end and triangular-shaped headlights similar to the Wraith.

2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn Interior

The convertible interior is graceful and highly stylish perhaps the best you can get in any convertible in the world right now. The new Dawn 2017 will accommodate 4 passengers though the automaker claims that in their world 2+2 does not equal to 4. It has a boot volume of between 244 and 295 liters.

The interior is very quiet and might be the quietest convertible in the world. This is courtesy of the automaker’s efforts to hook the car with an excellent aerodynamic profile. Also, the cloth top of the roof is heavily insulated and is lowered or raised gracefully by very quiet mechanical system. Seats are upholstered in rich leather while the whole console features book-matched wood accents.

The dash and the instruments cluster feature unique polishing and mate metal finish. It is hooked with an advanced Multimedia Interface and navigation system that comes with a 10.25 HD navigation screen and the Spirit of Ecstasy rotary controller that has a gesture-sensitive touchpad.

For safety, the 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn comes equipped with an awesome safety package just like the Wraith. It features front, side-impact and side-curtain airbags for all passengers and additional knee airbags for the driver and front passenger. Other safety features are Rolls-Royce Assist, ABS and a roll-over protection system that deploys from the rear head restraint. It also has a heat detection system that detects humans and animals and proceeds to issue an audible warning.

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the hood of the new 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn is a really powerful engine as you would of course expect from Rolls-Royce. The power-train is a 6.6-L V-12 unit similar to the one used by the Wraith. The unit produces 563 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. Power is channeled to all wheels by a ZF- built 8-speed automatic transmission system.

The power-train pushes the Dawn from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and though it is slower than the Wraith, this is pretty fast considering the Dawn’s 5,644 pounds body mass. It will achieve a top speed of 155 mph.

The engine returns 13.2 mpg for city, 38.8 mpg on highway and 19.9 mpg combined fuel economy. It also has a 330 g/Km CO2 emission rating.
